what does it look like to be a vampire in 3020?
i wonder if we would take new names
alongside our vampiric transitions
would we even still say “vampire”?
after the facades of today
and the specters of tomorrow
what will next year look like?
will we be so vibrant in a decade?
in a year?
what will it look like
when we don’t have to hide our fangs?
when we shape ourselves and exult
in all our beauty and have nothing to fear?
is such a world even possible?
i don’t have answers to these questions.
this world i hope for now is a world that i cannot know.
i was not born into it
i will not live to see it established
but i hope, yet, that it will exist someday
a world that stayed awake all night
for those who couldn’t face the day
a world where anyone could receive the
hemoglobin replacement therapy that they needed
or wanted
a world where we are not monsters
because no one would think us monstrous
it would be a nice place, i think.
