Drifting

Drifting is a roleplaying game for two players. It is designed to be simple and easy to play, with a heavy focus on storytelling and narration.

Players alternate rolling a six sided die, also known as a d6. The number rolled corresponds to an action, and then the player who rolled the die describes how that action plays out.

There are a few different scales to play on based on how long you want to spend describing each action. One roll could represent anything from a single exchange in a conversation to an entire scene of roleplaying.

Talk to your partner about what kind of game you want to play. Make sure you’re both aware of any content boundaries. This is a game, and while it’s intended to generally tell sad stories, it’s still supposed to be fun and safe for everyone involved.

The core concept of Drifting revolves around two people trapped in a helpless situation and the stress that follows from that. The point of the random chance element is to see what happens and watch the story develop without having an ending planned from the start.

The setting this game was originally written for was two stranded astronauts in orbit, but feel free to place your characters in any type of doomed scenario that leaves them isolated from the rest of the world.

The roll results are as follows:

1: Blame
2: Share
3: Hurt
4: Comfort
5: Mourn
6: Embrace

Feel free to interpret the specifics of these words as best fits the players and the story being told. Hurt could mean a physical injury or venomous words, for example.

At any point after one player has rolled a 3 two times or a 6 three times, anyone may end the game by describing how their character dies. The remaining player then does the same.
