Admit One

To prepare for this game, you need a microwave and a package of microwave popcorn. Make sure to select a brand or style that everyone enjoys–or as close to everyone as possible. Anyone who plays and abstains from the popcorn for any reason starts with two interrupt points.

The game begins when you press start on the microwave. In the time it takes for the popcorn to cook, go around the table and describe the pre-show trailers. Be as specific and descriptive as you like, but try to give everyone a turn. If everyone describes a trailer before the popcorn is finished, everyone gets one interrupt point.

The person holding the popcorn is the only one who gets to speak. They tell the story of the movie, but can only speak while eating popcorn. Another player may take the popcorn and begin narrating the movie, but must still be eating popcorn while they do.

Interrupt points are spent to add a detail or twist without having to take over narrative control. The person narrating must fit the new addition into the story without too much pause. If they swallow in between the interrupt and their next sentence, they must forfeit the popcorn and narrative control.

When you have nothing but unpopped kernels, the credits roll. Each unpopped kernel represents a post credits twist, stinger, or cliff hanger, after which the lights come back on and you shuffle out of the auditorium, past the theater staff who lurk nearby with brooms and mops.
